“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live.” Anne Sweeney, Walt Disney

With Christmas and New Year festivities on the doorstep, we thought we’d spare you the financial talk this week. Instead, we want to talk about you. After all, there’s no time like the end of the year to light up the candles, sit down with a trusted glass of wine and quietly reflect on the good, the bad, and the ‘need to do better next year’.

We wish you a Wonderful Holiday Season and a fantastic start to the New Year !

The low-down: A year in the life

Whether you finally took the time to launch your startup, quit your old job or completed an online course, you have reason to celebrate. No achievement is too small to be proud of, so give yourself credit for all that hard work. Still, we are only human, and 2016 may not have been all rainbows and unicorns - it’s important to take a step back and assess your strengths, weaknesses, failures and achievements in order to prepare yourself for the incoming year.
Here are some questions to help get you started:

  • List all the high points and low points of your year. What could you have done better?
  • What are you most proud of achieving?
  • What were the obstacles/excuses for not pursuing your goals?

If you need a daily dose of inspo, go and check out these 8 amazing female trailblazers - their success stories are sure to get you fired up!

Off to you: Bring on 2017

Now that you’ve mulled over the passing year, it’s time to get prepped for the fresh year ahead.

  • Make a list of your goals: what do you want to achieve, on both a personal and professional level? We recommend you use SMART goals as a guide to help you.
  • Try and make sure that these goals are supported by financially savvy habits (we will help you with this one!).
  • Invest in yourself, because no one else will. Learn a new skill, give yourself a much-needed break and never forget to dream big!
  • Focus on your health. It doesn’t matter if you’re a yoga kind of girl or a cardio junkie, as long as you’re exercising (no excuses!). Keeping fit does truly amazing things not only for your body, but also for your mind.
  • Enjoy yourself! It’s true what they say - laughter is a great medicine. Try to eliminate things that don’t bring joy to your life - banish those negative vibes.
  • Always celebrate the little victories. Check out this list from the Man Repeller.

The bigger picture: Believe you can, and you’re halfway there

A crucial element that underpins our motivation and drives us to achieve our goals is self-confidence. This week, we’ve asked our life coach friend, Marielena Sabatier, to tell us more about what exactly confidence means. Marielena argues that self-confidence is imperative in helping us achieve our full potential and that, because many of us have a negative, self-critical inner dialogue, we end up feeling crippled and debilitated. Sounds familiar? Please read the full article over here. It’s an old truism that the first step in achieving success is to start believing in yourself. Here’s to a more confident, prosperous New Year!
