What On Earth Are We Doing With Our Money?

£93,000 London Management Consultant

You may already know Refinery29’s Money Diaries… this is our own version of it! We’ve put together a few questions to understand what women are doing with their money. Let’s break the taboo and talk more about finances!

It’s short, snappy, fun and anonymous. Definitely not financial advice!

Management Consultant. London. 28. Married, no kids

💭 Financial goals:

Short term (1-5 years): Saving for a bigger home and a rainy day fund

Medium term (5-10 years): Hoping my earnings will grow to cover the cost of kids!

Long term (10 years +): Full force retirement saving - maxing out my pension (great tax shield) and saving into a Stocks & Shares ISA; would love to retire early and work only 50% of the year

🌟 Best buy ever: My Oxford degree

😳 Worst buy ever: A Celine handbag that turned out to be fake!

👀 Things you spend the most money on: Mortgage, food and shopping

💸 Salary / Income: £93,000

💰 Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): £131,000

💻 Any side hustles: Selling my old designer finds on eBay

👛 Savings: Yes I'm trying to put away around half my salary as savings (pension and ISA)

🏠 Home: Yes, we have a small 1 bed that we bought 5 years ago

🔦 Debt: Some student debt (£8,000) from my undergraduate days

📈 Investing: Workplace pension and Nutmeg

😌 Pension: Yes, through my employer, and I've figured out that I can fund half of it through tax savings

🔮 Insurances: Only travel insurance through my credit card

What is money for you? Freedom and pleasure

🚀 What is financial independence for you? Living on my own schedule and travelling lots
