What On Earth Are We Doing With Our Money?

You might already be familiar with Refinery29โ€™s Money Diariesโ€ฆ well, this is the Vestpod version! Weโ€™ve put together a few questions to help us understand what women are doing with their money, and they've answered! Always fun, always succinct, and always anonymous.

Journalist. london. 27. long-distance relationship

๐Ÿ’ญ Financial goals:

Short term (1-5 years): Moving in together with my boyfriend - so I am currently saving for the deposit and furniture so we can make sure we will live comfortably. Also building an emergency fund.

Medium term (5-10 years): Investing in my skills (post-graduate, courses, workshops etc), getting married, trip around South America.

Long term (10 years +): Kicking off my freelance journalist career and hopefully travel the world while reporting!.

๐ŸŒŸ Best buy ever: My laptop, maybe? I've had it for +6 years now, I've written my bachelor's and two MA thesis with it, started in journalism filing articles as a freelancer and it's never let me down!

๐Ÿ˜ณ Worst buy ever: Cheap sandals that break one month after buying them.

๐Ÿ‘€Things you spend the most money on: My rent, and plane tickets to visit my boyfriend, who lives in Germany..

๐Ÿ˜Œ Pension: My employer's contribution.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Insurances: No.

๐Ÿ’ธ Salary / Income: £30,500.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): Circa £2,500.

๐Ÿ’ป Any side hustles: I lost weight in recent months, so I am selling lots of old clothes. Planning to start a workshop in social media and networking.

๐Ÿ‘› Savings: Trying to save circa 30% of my salary every month.

๐Ÿ  Home: Not yet.

๐Ÿ”ฆ Debt: Never been in credit card debt and I've been lucky to get my education covered with different scholarships..

๐Ÿ“ˆ Investing: Not yet, but I'd love to get started.

โšก What is money for you? Stability!

๐Ÿš€ What is financial independence for you? Not having to worry and check my Monzo account any time I want to buy something, or having to ask anyone (parents, bf, etc) for support.
