What On Earth Are We Doing With Our Money? Software Professional with ยฃ48,000 Salary
Software Professional. Leicestershire. 35. Married with a 2 year old and a cat.
๐ญ Financial goals:
Short term (1-5 years): Saving for (hopefully) maternity leave and eventual house move.
Medium term (5-10 years): A new house and start investing to pay for kid's future.
Long term (10 years +): Live comfortably and enjoying the fruits of our labour. Possibly bolstering investments/ savings ready for retirement.
๐ Best buy ever: Any books that I buy. I'm addicted to that initial crack of the spine.
๐ณ Worst buy ever: any pair of high heeled shoes, I love looking at them but can't walk or survive more than a 'sit down' meal in them.
๐ Things you spend the most money on: Books/ skincare/make up/ used to be clothes but pandemic and WFH put a stop to that.
๐ Pension: Yes.
๐ฎ Insurances: Yes - to cover mortgage in case of death :(
๐ธ Salary / Income: £48,000
๐ฐ Net worth (what you own vs what you owe, or your assets minus your debts): £114,500
๐ป Any side hustles: nada - work and being a mum to a toddler is enough at the moment. Well done to anyone who do have one!
๐ Savings: Yes - mostly in cash ISAs, I'm thinking of eventually opening S&S ISAs but need the cash for planned mat leave
๐ Home: Yep
๐ฆ Debt: Paid of Student loans and pay off Credit card each month. Just mortgage which is at £69k.
๐ Investing: Workplace pension and put in £5 a week into Moneybox.
โก What is money for you? Helps with peace of mind.
๐ What is financial independence for you? Not having to worry about the basic things like food, warmth, enjoyment. We were not well off growing up but we managed to still have fun, my parents protected us as kids from any money woes. I don't know how they managed it on such low incomes and a big family.
