don’t worry so much

Do money things at the same time as releasing dopamine, so you want to do money things whilst you’re having fun.
— Krystle McGilvery
  • Even the finance experts don't have it all figured out. Experts in all industries are forever having to update their knowledge about finance: the market is forever changing, so if you're not sure about something, know that the finance experts are also not sure!

  • Have fun exploring your psychological self. Your attitudes and behaviours towards money are a direct reflection of what's happening with your subconscious, which is influenced by external factors.

  • While it takes deep work to understand your mindset — you have to do a lot of reflection — It doesn't have to be scary. It’s a journey so have fun with it!

develop a growth mindset

  • Try to actively put yourself in new situations to develop a growth mindset.

  • When you put yourself in new situations, you're re-learning and informing yourself that you're fine, you can cope, you have the tools to make a good decision to get by, and you're developing self trust and exploration, which is what's needed for you to improve your financial decision-making.

  • The best way to do this is to challenge yourself to do something that you usually wouldn’t do. This helps to reinforce the messaging to yourself that actually you can do this!

do money things while having fun

  • It’s important to re-frame your association with money. You want the thought of money to be positive, so why not try to do money things while having fun? Sit down, put some music on, maybe bring a girlfriend over and go over your money once a month - it doesn’t have to be a boring, tedious task!
